Custom Continuous Forms

Product Info:
Comes in various sizes and can be printed from up to 1 to 6 colors , can consist of one to multiple parts, contains stubs on the left and right side of the sheet to run through a pin fed printer and is connected together however can be separated by the perforations that connect one sheet to the next.

Material:
Normally ran on NCR paper in various weights and colors so that the information being applied by the printer transfers to all copies. Other stocks that maybe used vary from Tag and Index stocks to Bond and Ledger Stocks.

Additions:
Can contain numbering, screens, extra perforations, crimping, glue lines, spot glue and marginal words.

Product Use:
Invoices, Statements, Receipts and Checks.

Prime example is computer paper. Usually has (stubs) on the left and right side for alignment purposes.

Glued Edge Forms

Product Information:
Single sheets that are glued at the edge. Comes in various sizes (parts can also vary in lengths) and can be printed from 1 to 4 colors. Can consist of 2 or more parts, a glue line is applied which can be placed on the left, right, top or bottom to hold all parts together.

A good example of this is a scratch pad.

Single Sheets - 1 sheet of paper (sizes vary).

May or may not have printing in the back. A good example of this is "Letterheads".

Material:
NCR paper which comes in various weights and colors.

Additions:
Can contain numbering, extra perforations, screens and marginal words.

Product used for:
Internal office forms and delivery receipts.

Envelopes

Product Info:
May or may not have a window. Comes in various sizes which are defined by numbers, please see below for most common number call outs and sizes:

# 9 Regular or Window - 3 7/8 x 8 7/8

# 10 Regular or Window - 4 1/8 x 9 1/2

# 11 Regular or Window - 4 1/2 x 10 3/8

Larger envelopes depending on flap location would be defined as Booklet versus Catalog. Can be printed from up to 1 to 6 colors, can have an inside tint which can be standard or custom, can have a window which can be standard or custom depending on location required, has gum on flap to close.

Materials:
Most common stock used is a 24# or 28# Wove and 28# Brown Kraft. Other materials commonly used are 24# Classic Crest, 24# Starwhite Vicksberg or Tyveck.

Type of paper vary, Flap may or may not have glue. Window sizes vary as well. Window location is movable.

Additions:
No gum on Flap, Peel and Seal (Liner on adhesive, when ready to use remove liner to expose adhesive), Clasp, Screens, Extended Flap, Perforations and Thermograph (Raised ink).

Labels

Product Info:
Comes in various shapes and sizes. Can be printed from up to 1 to 12 colors. Can be supplied on a roll, fan folded, sheeted or single (1up) depending on the Clients request.

Usually with adhesive behind the face of label. May or may not have a piggy back, internal die cuts, round corners, varnish/coating (can be over or under art). May or may not have printing on the back of the face of label where the adhesive is found. Type of material varies, sizes varies, may come fan folded or in a roll. Labels may or may not contain perforations between labels. Also, may or may not have bar code.

Material:
The most common used Paper materials are Thermal Transfer (Direct or Indirect), Krome Kote (High gloss), Matte Litho and Semi-Gloss.

The most common used Film materials are Mylar, Polyester, Polypropylene and Polyolefin. Adhesives are classified by Acrylic or Rubber based but both can either be permanent or removable. A Client can also call out a number based on the application that is needed (Example: S-246 which is a Rubber based permanent adhesive).

Additions:
Labels can have Water or UV Varnish, round corners, extra perforations (on label or between labels), Unwind on a roll or fan fold can be 1, 2, 3 or 4 (Refer to unwind chart), numbering, pin feeds, barcodes and internal die cuts.

Package or Product Identification.

Folders

Product Info:
Comes in various sizes however the most common size is 9 x 12. Can print form up to 1 to 6 spot colors and 4 color process. Contains pockets on the inside which standard size is 4".

Material:
Most commonly used stocks are cover stocks such as 78# or 95# Dull or Gloss Topcoat and 9Pt, 10Pt or 12Pt C1S or C2S Carolina. Text stocks can be requested however not often.

Additions:
Can contain scores, perforations, screens, business card slits or hole punching.

Snap-out Forms

Product Information:
Comes in various sizes (parts can also vary in lengths) and can be printed from 1 to 4 colors. Can consist of 2 or more parts, contains a stub which comes in two standard sizes (1/2" or 5/8") and can be placed on the left, right, top or bottom. Could be NCR or can be with or without carbon. Pages are "Snapped out" or detached from perforations (usually located at the top). May or may not have marginal wordings.

Material:
Normally ran on NCR sheets or standard bonds if carbon is required. Paper comes in various weights and colors.

Additions:
Can contain numbering, screens, extra perforations, hole punching and marginal words.

Product used for:
Internal office forms, Bill of Ladings, Receipts or Contracts.

Single Sheets

Product Info:
Comes in various sizes, most common are 8 1/2 x 11 and 11 x 17. Can be printed form up to 1 to 4 spot colors or 4 color process.

Material:
Most common Text or Book papers used for spot color printing are 20# or 24# Regular Bond and 60# offset. Other papers that are commonly used are 24 # Classic Crest and 40# or 50# Offset. Most common Cover papers used for spot color printing are 90# Index, 67# Vellum Bristol, 80# Classic Crest and 100# Tag.

Most common Text or Book paper used for 4 color process printing is 70#, 80# and 100# Dull or Gloss Topcoat and Cover paper used for 4 color process printing is 78# and 95# Dull or Gloss Topcoat.

Additions:
Can contain perforations, screens, scores, folds, numbering, padding and hole punching.

Product used for:
Letterhead, Brochures, Instruction sheets and Applications.

Common Defect Types:

Feathering: A defect, which is characterized by ragged, coarse edges or undesirable irregular edges around print.

Ghosting: A very faint reproduction of printed design without actual ink transfer.

Halo: An undesirable, peripheral outline of a printed image.

Hickey: A piece of foreign matter in paper or similar defect. Spots, voids or imperfections in the printing due to dirt on the press, dried or lumpy inks, paper dust particles, etc.

Logo: A design used on Company Letterhead, Business Card, or Advertising Material as an emblem by which an organization can be easily recognized.

Matrix: The face material and adhesive surrounding a self-adhesive label usually removed after die cutting.

Missing copy: Copy or art, which is absent from the produced product but appears on the approved artwork the absence of such changes the meaning of the text and has a negative impact on the salability of the product.

Mottled: A spotty or uneven appearance of printing mainly in solid areas.

Offsetting: Unwanted transfer of ink from one printed surface to another surface.

Registration: The process of alignment of different elements in a printing job. Such as the different color inks on a print job, so they are correctly printed next to each other or over each other.

Trapping: The overlapping of various colors in a design to prevent their separating and not touching as a result of registration variables during printing.

Visual inspection: Defects that, when held at an arms length are visible to the naked eye without the use of an aid (ex. a loupe or magnifying glass).

Wrong copy: Artwork, copy, part numbers, which do not conform to the ordered component/product, which changes the meaning of the text and has a negative impact on the salability of the product.
